Here is a selection of attractions in the Lausanne area and Switzerland as a whole.

LAUSANNE

Lausanne, the capital of the Canton Vaud, is a vibrant city where history, culture, and nature meet. Its historic old town is a highlight, blending Gothic architecture with spectacular views over Lake Geneva and the Alps. The Lausanne Cathedral and its bell tower offer one of the best view points in the city.

Known as the Olympic Capital, Lausanne hosts the headquarters of many international sports organizations, as well as the interactive Olympic Museum. A stroll along the lakefront in the Ouchy neighborhood is highly recommended, where ferries and small cruises depart across Lake Geneva (also called Lac Léman in French).

Lausanne is also a cultural hub with numerous museums, including the Palais de Rumine, the Collection de l’Art Brut, the Plateforme 10 arts district, and the Fondation de l’Hermitage.

LAVAUX

Just a short ride from Lausanne lies Lavaux, a stunning terraced vineyard region overlooking Lake Geneva. Since 2007, it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area is ideal for cycling or walking while enjoying sweeping views of the lake and the French Alps. Along the way, local winemakers welcome visitors with tastings of regional wines and specialties.

From Lausanne Gare, trains toward Vevey, Montreux, or Saint-Maurice stop in Lutry, Villette, Cully, Rivaz, St-Saphorin, and Puidoux-Chexbres. Travel time is only 10–20 minutes.

The Old Town is full of history, featuring landmarks such as St. Peter’s Cathedral and the Reformation Wall. For a more relaxed atmosphere, head to the bohemian neighborhood of Carouge. Hiking enthusiasts should not miss Mont Salève, just across the French border, offering spectacular views over the city.

Geneva also boasts outstanding museums, including the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum, the Patek Philippe Museum, and the International Museum of the Reformation.
